Joseph Ogbonna
Executive Coach
Joseph is a psychology graduate and executive coach with a diverse career in business improvement, governance, and leadership development across multiple industries.
Country: United Kingdom
Sector experience: Legal, financial services and real estate.
Background
Joseph is a Psychology graduate who started working life as an entrepreneur, setting up a couple of businesses in partnership, with his dad, an educational psychologist and testing expert, and another with a friend.
Following years of being employed in project management and customer service, his last role was heading a Business Improvement unit on customer service change programmes. His first non-executive role in a public-private housing organisation was completed as Chair of the Board. It was followed by a trustee and non-executive director role in Arts & Culture organisations, before his current role in a regulatory, membership organisation.
Having trained as a professional coach, Joseph’s coaching assignments have been with leaders and young aspiring leaders in Law, Banking, Consulting, Measurement & Testing, Real Estate, Entrepreneurs, Healthcare and Higher Education.
Coaching Style
Joseph’s approach is primarily to create a space for the client to gain perspective and to find ways forward for their higher aspirations and most pressing challenges. Described as values-led, he supports his clients to identify and elevate their personal values so that they become a compass for re-orienting them to stay authentic, whilst achieving their goals.
Joseph is solution-focused, curious and encourages experimentation followed by reflection. The result is that his clients act, without certainty of the outcomes, but willing to push their boundaries to discover and learn – a useful state of mind in an increasingly uncertain world. If a desired outcome is considered possible, there is more impetus to taking a risk. With an often-different life experience from his clients, they find Joseph’s insights useful in re-framing situations.
Joseph is described as Insightful, Non-judgmentally Calm and Resourceful
Special Interests
- I treasure wisdom. I seek it and love supporting clients to tune into their inner wisdom for guidance, instead of always relying on externally sources.
- I enjoy helping leaders to solve business problems when they pay attention to self-knowledge, learning and drawing on their inner wisdom. This is especially so when they do good business, generating income and growth whilst having a positive impact on their employees and society.
- I draw inspiration from martial arts, endurance running, some African values, breathwork, mindfulness, Stoic, and practical philosophies

Joseph is a welcoming and supportive coach and brings an open mind and safe space to discuss your challenges and opportunities. I appreciated the open questions and invitations to reflect at key points through the session.
Joseph was great. He really helped me plan for, and adjust to, a new normal of balancing work and my new responsibilities as a parent. The sessions were a really useful touchpoint to take stock and prepare for the next set of challenges.
