We know from our experience of working with many parents that satisfaction and happiness comes from achieving a sense of balance, and that balance can mean very different things to different people.
Most parents experience times when it is hard to get the balance right, they can feel they are neglecting one or other side of the seesaw. In reality life is like that. There may be some weeks when there really is a family crisis and others when there is a key deadline at the office. We encourage you to take a medium to long term view of the balance you manage to achieve – not worrying about it on a weekly basis – but checking in with yourself perhaps monthly or even quarterly to see how balanced or out of kilter you feel between career and family.
Use this exercise to reflect on how you feel currently noting down the things that help your seesaw to keep in balance.
